| FROM SPRING INTO SUMMER….BAITING TIPS Seeing how the weather has turned much more springlike in the past week the carp will very soon be coming much more active. I have noticed for a fair few years now how carp captures have become much less in the winter than they used to be. There are various theories as to why this is happening, high oil baits that are very much in vogue now days, this includes pellets and boilies, weather conditions, alough winters seem much milder recently so it could be thought that carp would still move around, abolishing of close season, I think this has had a massive effect and is possibly the main reason for poor winter fishing. The reason for this is all of our angling has suddenly jumped forward 3 months, this means the fish have a lot more food at their disposal, maybe this carries them through the colder months? Whats your theory on this? Carp I have caught this winter have been really badly leeched up, much more than usual indicating they have been buried in the silt. Anyway the carp will soon be on the move, so time to think about baiting. Shortly the water temperature will be hitting 50f so the conditions are correct to start introducing some proper food, by this I mean fishmeal baits. There are two fishmeals in our range that I would recommend, they are Red Baron and Multimeat alough you may be tempted by our new Belachan and Bloodworm which is a great addition to our range. Red Baron and Multimeat have a great track record through the warmer months catching fish to over 40lbs in England and over 50lbs in Europe. These two baits work really well when heavy baiting is used. That’s not sales talk either its fact. If you are really serious about catching lots of carp, and big ones as well then hoof it in and watch your bobbins fly!!! The same could be said of Nutrabaits Big Fish Mix, Essential Baits B5 and any other quality fishmeal bait. To start with during April, don’t overdo the baiting. If winter is dragging its heels then just introduce a kilo or two per week, any more is a waste of bait. Keep your eye on the air temperature, the best thing for warming the water is a couple of weeks of warm winds. You will normally find the carp on the bank in which the wind is blowing into. Now is the time to give them some bait. Make sure you keep baiting regularly, the carp will be on the lookout for it then. Supplement your boilies with CBS HNV Betaine Halibut Pellets, aniseed partiblend, hemp, maple peas, tares and a few tiger nuts, all of which are available from us. Keep your eyes open for leaping carp at this time of year, they are usually trying to clean the leeches and lice off themselves, this gives their location away. Look for new weed growth as well as this usually harbours lots of natural food. Inspect the weed that you reel in to see if there is any natural life in it, if there is then try fishing in the spot you retrieved it from. So theres a few tips for early season. The carp will be at their heaviest at this time of year so go and bag a lump!!! And if you catch it on our baits send us a catch report and a picture. All the best from Mark at CBS. |
